Spay/Neuter Procedure
We recommend the spay/neuter procedure for all our patients because of the procedure’s many benefits. Sterilizing your pet reduces or even eliminates the risk of many diseases of the reproductive system. It also benefits you and your family by preventing challenging mating behaviors, such as the urge to roam, aggressive behavior, and mood changes. Both the spay and neuter procedures are quick, safe, and require minimal recovery time.
Spaying Explained
Spaying your female pet removes the ovaries and uterus to prevent unwanted litters, heat cycles (canine periods), mammary and uterine cancers, and unwanted behaviors, such as roaming and mood changes.

Neutering your male pet removes the testicles to prevent unwanted litters, testicular cancer, enlarged prostate, and unwanted behaviors, such as roaming and aggression.

Benefits of Carbon Dioxide Laser Surgery
Laser surgery uses a highly focused beam of light to ablate tissue, making clean and precise incisions. The laser also seals while it cuts, closing capillaries, small blood vessels, lymphatics, and nerve endings. We use laser surgery in place of traditional scalpel surgery whenever possible, due to the outstanding benefits for patients:
- Less bleeding: By sealing blood vessels as it cuts, the laser greatly reduces blood loss. This benefit has enabled doctors to perform a number of new procedures that were not practical to perform with a scalpel.
- Less pain: By sealing lymphatics and nerve endings, laser surgery decreases edema and pain, resulting in a much more comfortable recovery for the patient.
- Reduced risk of infection: The laser kills bacteria in its path, sterilizing the wound and thus reducing chances of infection.
- Reduced recovery time: With less bleeding, pain, and risk of infection, the patient is likely to have a far quicker recovery following surgery.
MMP Surgery (Modified Maquet Procedure)
MMP Surgery (Modified Maquet Procedure) is a surgical technique used to treat dogs with a torn cranial cruciate ligament (CCL), a common injury in the knee joint. This procedure helps stabilize the knee by shifting how weight is carried through the joint, making it easier for your pet to walk and move without pain. MMP surgery uses a titanium implant that encourages faster healing and often allows pets to begin using the leg again just days after surgery.
At Tranquility Veterinary Clinic, we may recommend MMP surgery for medium to large dogs who are active and in otherwise good health. It’s a less invasive alternative to some other knee surgeries and has shown good long-term results. If your dog is limping or showing signs of knee pain, our team can assess their condition and let you know if MMP surgery is the right option.
